Florida Jet flyers, Inc. was formed in 1996 to promote model aviation in general, and more specifically R/C Jets. Not created to compete with other organizations for their members, FJF functions with several specific goals. FJF is a non-membership group, and actively supports both the AMA and JPO.

For many years the two individuals behind FJF are John Burdin and Steve Jaworski.  Both John and Steve have been involved with R/C model aviation for more than thirty years each.  R/C Jets caught their attention in the early 90's. Steve is a master builder with over 80 R/C Jets to his credit. Steve doesn't fly too much anymore, but he insist he will do more in the future.  Chances are that you will see some of Steve's work at just about any jet rally.  Steve has taken a sabbatical from model aviation, and we hope to see him back in the near future.  John is an experienced model pilot who loves to fly in front of large crowds.  He loves full-scale air shows and annually performs in several of the largest shows in the south.  John's love of model aviation and R/C Jets remains the driving force behind these activities.

FJF's most ambitious program is the annual Florida International Jet Rally.  2009 will mark the 16
th Annual FIJR.  This event is four days of fun, flying and fellowship.  Known as “The Pilots Jet Rally”, you will find complete information on the FIJR elsewhere in this site.

Over the past several years, FJF has taken a pro-active roll with air show promoters.  By integrating R/C Jet demonstrations conducted in a professional manner within full-scale events, we are able to further promote our activities into markets which would otherwise go untouched.  To learn more about FJF Airshows please see that link on the site.

FJF is very proud of the relationships developed with business and community leaders. Exposing R/C Jets and their associated benefits to more than excited hobbyist, has proved very beneficial for our activities.  FJF is continually building relationships that will provide long term benefits for all.  All of this proves once again, that R/C Modeling can be fun, exciting and beneficial for everyone.

The 2009 Florida International Jet Rally has been canceled due to extreme pressure brought by the acting Lake Wales Economic Director.  After 13 years with a perfect safety record, many millions in positive economic impact as well as support form nearly every business in Lake Wales, the 2009 event was canceled after it was previously approved.  The reasons are not clear, and have not been fully disclosed.  No immediate plans for a continuation of this great event have been undertaken.
